Earlier in the season, Eli Manning was asked if he thought he was an elite quarterback in today's NFL. He did not hesitate to say that he was and if you look at the numbers, it is hard to dismiss that. Although Eli did not break the records that Rodgers and Brees did this season, any normal year his numbers would be MVP worthy and lead the league. He has found a way to get back into the playoffs and his team is playing better then they have all season. In the past 2 games both sides of the ball have been clicking and the wild card game became un-watchable after the first half. They now advance to play Green Bay and Eli will have a chance to show everyone that he can not only hang with an elite Aaron Rodgers, but also defeat him.
To do so, Eli will have to not only brace the defense of Green Bay, but also the climate that Lambeau field provides. The Packers will be at home where they rarely lose. This is partly due to the weather and the rest is due to crowds filled to the brim with rowdy Pack fans and shareholders. These fans have more at stake, literally, then any fans in the NFL. The stadium is sold out with people in their seats each game even in the preseason, and the fans settle in early well before kickoff. All of this could only hurt Eli in the game, but at the same time would make it ever more sweeter a victory if the Giants win.
Eli has relied heavily on his arm to show his ability. He has shown huge improvement from his interception riddled 2010 season and has gotten a new target to rely on in the passing game. Hakeem Nicks is still there and helping Eli while Victor Cruz is proving to be an up and coming superstar looking to get a chance and salsa in the end zone each week. He also has a strong running game to give him breaks and a defense who appears to be set to try and go the distance. This week in Green Bay Eli will have his chance, and after the game we will know if he is elite or just Eli.
