The New York Giants are preparing to face the Super Bowl Champion Green Bay Packers on Sunday at historic Lambeau Field. The two teams have put up great offensive numbers throughout the year and are both experienced in the post season. A look into the team’s statistical average on both sides of the ball shows why they had such a close game when they met earlier this season.
Believe it or not, just 20 total yards of offense separate the two teams. The Giants have averaged 385 yards a game to this point this season while the Packers have averaged 405. The teams are very close in terms of both rushing and passing yards as well with just yards separating them. The Giants average 89 yards a game while Green bay gets 97 yards a game. Only 11 yards separate the two teams passing as well with Green Bay averaging 307 yards passing a game. Green Bay’s real edge comes in the area of points per game where the Giants earn 25 points to the Packers 35 points a game.
Defensively, the Giants close the gap left from the Packers strong offense. Here, the Giants give up 376 yards a game compared to 412 yards given up by the Packers. They are strongest against the pass giving up just 255 yards a game through the air. The Giants defense, however, still gives up more points a game then the Packers despite all of this. Here, the Packers give up just 22 points compared to 25 by the Giants. More lately, including last week, the Giants have given up fewer points and have been getting stronger down the stretch. Perhaps the more recent play will be the difference in the game. Giants fans can only hope.
