The Knicks were able to escape with a victory Monday night to move to 5-4 on the season. The win came after a late surge from the Bobcats who were visiting Madison Square Garden looking for just their 3rd victory of the season. After outscoring the Knicks 22-19 in the fourth quarter, they were able to make things close. They hit some clutch three-pointers down the final stretch to stay in the game, but ultimately needed a three in the closing seconds to force overtime. They were unable to make a three to tie the game and Carmelo Anthony secured the rebound to give the Knicks the win. The win brought the Knicks home record to 2-2 this season.
The Knicks were able to get good performances from their main trio of Anthony, Chandler, and Stoudemire. The three combined for 67 points in all with Stoudemire leading all scorers with 25 total points. Chandler also added 13 rebounds while Carmelo led the team in assist with 6. The three are starting to gel a bit more and will need to continue that trend to take this team to the next level. The Knicks will have the day off on Tuesday with no games slotted.
The Bobcats loss dropped them to just 2-7 on the season and they have only one away win to date so far this season away from home. Boris Diaw had a fantastic game for Charlotte and led them in all major statistical categories. He had 19 points and ten rebounds while being just three assist short of a triple-double. Boris and the Bobcats will travel back home to play the Rockets on Tuesday. You can be assured that it will be a long plane ride home for the struggling squad.
