The Knicks lost 83-94 in Memphis Thursday and lost Carmelo in the process. Carmelo escaped a hand injury early on in the game and later rolled an ankle, which sent him to the locker-room. He would not return after that injury, but is not feared to miss any significant time. While gone, his team struggled mightily to get any offensive production while Memphis was able to produce. The loss dropped the team to 6-5 on the year
The Knicks had a mild comeback in the 4th quarter outscoring the Grizzlies 31-19, but were simply outmatched all night. Before leaving Anthony scored 14 points, which ended up making him the teams leading scorer on the day. Walker added 14 of his own off the bench as well. One thing that hurt the team was opportunities as they were just 10-11 from the line. Chandler led the knicks in rebounds securing 11 balls off the boards. Comparatively, The Grizzlies had 30 free throw attempts, 20 of which they made.
Leading the way for the Grizzlies was their star Gay who ended the night with 26 points. Mayo added 18 off the bench as he continues to prove to be a very good role player for the team this season. Gasol also got a double-double, scoring 10 points and 12 rebounds, to help the Grizzlies win. The team ass a whole shot 50 percent from the three-point-line as well. The win brings Memphis’s record to 4-6 this season.
For the Knicks to keep pace in the conference, they will have to hope Carmelo gets back and gets back fast.
