The Mets have slipped below 500 after a 5-2 loss against their inner city rival Yankees. The win gives the Yankees more momentum as they continue to Win without Jeter in the lineup and win away from Yankee Stadium. The win at Citi Field brought their away record to 22-13 on the year. The biggest support came from the offense in the top of the 6thinning when they scored four runs. They also had two homeruns on the day.
The Yankees had 8 hits total to produce their 5 runs. Curtis Granderson hit his 22ndhomer of the year and looks poised to be a participant in this year’s homerun derby. Eduardo Nunez added a homerun, which brought his total to 3 on the year. Bartolo Colon pitched great for the Yanks and recorded his sixth win of the season. This was Bartolo’s first game back from the disabled list, and he pitched 6 scoreless innings.
The loss for the Mets was credited to Dillon Gee. It is just his 2ndloss of the season and brought the Mets record to 41-42 on the year. The Mets have 5 more wins on the road then they do at Citi Field this year and looked bad with Reyes out of the lineup. They were able to get just 2 runs on 8 hits.
The two teams finish up the subway series July 3rdat 1:10 PM ET at Citi Field. The Mets plan to start Ra Dickey who has a 3.77 ERA this season. The Yankees will turn to Freddy Garcia and his 3.28 ERA. Both teams still have a lot to play for and would like to win this final game of the series. With Reyes still Out for the Mets and Nunez playing so well in replace of Jeter, the Yankees should have no problem getting a victory. The game pits two solid starters against one another though and it should make for a good pitching battle.
