The Mets lost against San Francisco’s Tim Lincecum after they were able to hit off of him early. In all the Mets got just 4 hits and the one run off Lincecum in the 1st. They were unable to do much with the early lead as they gave it up quickly when San Francisco scored 2 runs of their own in the bottom of the first. Sergio Romo came on to close the game out and pick ed up his first save of the year.

Across the country in the Bronx, Derek Jeter and the New York Yankees battled the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. In the game Jeter needed two hits to get to 3,00- regular season hits for his career. In the end he did that and more and led the Yankees to a 5-4 win. The day was simply magical for Jeter and may have been his best performance ever.
The Victory puts the Yankees record at 52-35 for the year and gives them a 29-19 record at Yankee Stadium. In all the Yankees got 10 hits, but the story of the day was Jeter’s quest for 3,000. Of the Yankees 10 hits, Jeter got half of them. He ended up 5-5 on the day and was a triple shy of hitting for the cycle. The 3,00o hit was a homerun well over the left field wall. There could be no better way to get the record than in the fashion Jeter did on this day. Pitcher David Robertson moved his record to 2-0 while Mariano Rivera collected his 22ndsave of the season.
The loss moved Tampa Bay to 49-40 on the year. They got just 5 hits on the game, but scored 4 runs and got 2 home runs from their offense.
