The Mets sank to 45-43 on the year after a 6-0 shutout by the LA Dodgers on July 7th. The Mets were unable to hit Dodger starter Clayton Kershaw who gave up just 5 hits on the day. The loss sends the Mets in the wrong direction after battling to get above 500 this year. They have played particularly well away and have a 26-21 road record this season. It was not their day, however, as they were lifeless from the plate.

Back in New York, the Yankees fell 5-1 while Derek Jeter continued to attempt to reach the 3,000 hit milestone. Jeter was able to get a hit but is 2 shy of the incredible mark. It should be noted that he has well over 3,00 hits in his career, but rather the 3,000 represents regular season hits and excludes the playoffs. They struggled against a divisional foe that is grasping at straws to catch the division and keep things close.
The loss for the Yankees moved their record to 51-35 on the season. They were only able to muster 1 run and 5 hits in total on the day as Rays pitching bothered hitters all night.
