The New YorkYankees have taken game one of the series 5-1 against the New York Mets in the battle of the big apple. The interleague match up showed both teams were able to get hits. It was the but Yankees, however, who were the only ones able to string the hits together and produce runs on this day though.
In the end, the Yankees were able to get 5 runs on 11 hits. It all started fast for the Yanks in the first inning when they were able to get 3 runs off Mets’ pitcher Jonathon Niese. Yankee pitcher Ivan Nova moved his record to 8-4 for the Yankees and did so in impressive fashion. The win puts the Yankees at 49-31 for the year and improved their home record to 21-13 in games away from Yankee stadium.
The Mets are now at 500 for the year at 41-41 and have just 18 wins at their home stadium compared to 21 losses. Mets pitcher Jonathon Niese brought his record down to 7-7 for the season. Tomorrow’s game will showcase a couple of dominating pitchers and should be competitive as neither team wants to break with the all-star break approaching. The mets certainly do not want to fall under 500 and have a losing record, so they should leave everything out on the field tomorrow.
Game 2 of the series is set to start at 4:10 PM ET on July 2ndin the New York Met’s ballpark. Bartolo Colon will start for the Yankees who hope to improve their record in their competitive division. Colon is 5-3 on the year with an impressive 3.10 earned run average. The Mets will start Dillon Gee, who has been even more impressive this year. He has lost just one decision this year and has 8 wins with a 3.32 ERA. The game should be a pitching battle and New York baseball fans are in for a good one..
